James Carpenter Spokane
Memorial service for James M. “Jim” Carpenter, 72, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grads Club of Spokane, 14 W. Graves. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carpenter, who was born in Havre, Mont., died Wednesday.
He grew up in Whitefish, Mont., and served with the Navy during the later years of World War II.
Mr. Carpenter moved to the Spokane Valley in 1962 and in 1963 began working for Columbia Lighting. He retired in 1989.
He was a member of two senior bowling leagues and was a 20-year member of the Grads Club of Spokane.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Ruth; two sons, James Carpenter of Haugan, Mont., and Monte Oehrling of Seattle; a sister, Mardell Sievers of Bismark, N.D.; a brother, Donald Carpenter of Lynnwood, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
Lydia Kannberg Spokane
Funeral for Lydia Kannberg, 88, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A 60-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Kannberg died Thursday. She was born in North Dakota.
Mrs. Kannberg was a member of the South Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mildred Bauer; and several nieces and nephews.

Carmela Contos Spokane
Funeral Mass for Carmela Mae Contos, 77, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Contos died Wednesday.
She graduated from North Central High School and Holy Names College. She was a first grade teacher with the Cheney School District for 25 years.
Mrs. Contos was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and was active with her high school and college alumni.
She and her husband of 56 years, Aleck, spent the past 19 years as “snow birds” in Arizona.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Stephanie Trachtenberg of San Diego; a son, Kim Contos of Spokane; two sisters, Terry Penna of Spokane and Betty Bracco of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Earl Bundy Glendale, Ariz.
Graveside service for Earl H. Bundy, a former Spokane-area resident, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bundy, who was born in Edwall, Wash., died Wednesday. He was 79.
He married Gladys McLean in 1974 and later moved to Arizona, where he worked as a janitor for several years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald Bundy of Spokane and Richard Bundy of Gresham, Ore.; two daughters, Darlene Pearson of Tekoa, Wash., and Judith Crisp of Glendale; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Cecile Cooper Spokane
Memorial service for Cecile L. Cooper, 86, will be today at 3 p.m. at the Community Bible Church in Spokane. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cooper, who was born in Copeland, Idaho, died Thursday.
She moved to Yakima in 1940 and to Sacramento in 1956.
Mrs. Cooper settled in Rathdrum in 1968 and was a homemaker.
She moved to Spokane in 1986 to be near family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira, in 1986.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Swaney of Hauser Lake, Idaho; four daughters, Janet Trissel of Gleed, Wash., Phyllis Ostrowski of California, Myrna Pisani of Spokane and Cathy Booth of Otis Orchards; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Harold Hansen Spokane
No service will be held for Harold E. Hansen, a 40-year Spokane resident, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hansen, who was born in Govan, Wash., died Thursday. He was 75.
He served with the Army during World War II, including involvement in Africa, Italy, France and Germany.
Mr. Hansen later worked as a mail sorter for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1978.
He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2 and was a baseball coach.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jane; two sons, Mark Hansen of Spokane and Rick Hansen of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Guy Hansen of Tenino, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
