Three Wilbur Students Win Dar Essay Contest
Wilbur Creston (Wash.) Elementary students Leslie Wheeler, James Floyd Pyle and Eric Crowell were named winners of the American History Essay contest sponsored by the Esther Reed Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In addition, the chapter honored 12 seniors from area high schools as Good Citizens for their dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Brian-Keith Jennings, Cheney; Andy Kirstein, Christian Heritage, Edwall; Ryan Leach, Colville; Stephanie Giese, Almira/Coulee-Hartline; Jeremy Engle and Sarah Johnson, Liberty, Spangle; Ryan Bernard, Rosalia; Kasey Konkright, Cusick; Tanya Chantry, Selkirk High, Metaline Falls; Rachel Hilditch, Wilbur; and Celeste Montre, Reardan.
Several Inland Northwest students graduated at the end of winter quarter from Western Washington University in Bellingham.

Ryan Duncan, a 1994 graduate of Ferris High School, has received a $700 Journalism Scholarship at Eastern Washington University, based on his academic excellence.
Duncan, a junior at EWU, is the son of Scott and Shelly Duncan, Spokane.
Qi Tan, Spokane, graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Ph.D. in January.
Air Force Airman Keri Marquez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonios.
Marquez is the daughter of Carol Bellanca, Spokane, and Glenn Gallaher, Olympia.
Air Force Master Sgt. William Miranda has graduated from the Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base-Gunter Annex in Montgomery, Ala.
Miranda, son of Audrey McManners, Spokane, is a radar systems quality assurance evaluator assigned to the Keflavik Naval Station in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Army Pfc. Robert Kennedy has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal for demonstrating outstanding achievement and meritorious service in the performance of his duties.
Kennedy is assigned to Charlie Company, 503rd Infantry Regiment, Camp Casey, Tongduchonup in South Korea.
He is the son of Michele Davis, Spokane, and Robert Kennedy, Chattaroy, and a 1997 graduate of North Central High School.
