Lonely - And Missing
Thieves stole two works by renowned 19th-century Russian artist Vasily Perov from the Russian Museum in central St. Petersburg on Tuesday. The painting, “The Lone Guitarist,” is insured for $700,000 while the sketch, “The Troika,” is insured for about $500,000. The burglars broke a first-floor window to get into the building, grabbed the two artworks and quickly jumped back out the window as police approached. They fired one pistol shot at police but missed, and no one was injured. Slack security at Russia’s underfunded museums has prompted a wave of art thefts in recent years.
