Ruth Sargent Naples, Idaho

Service for Ruth Boel Sargent, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will follow at McArthur Cemetery near Naples. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sargent, who was born in Salt Lake City, died Monday.

She married Charles Sargent in 1927 and then settled in Naples, farming and raising cattle.

Mrs. Sargent and her husband owned a small sawmill and logged locally. She traveled extensively after her husband died.

She was a member of Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church and attended a Presbyterian Church as a child.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Stern of Deer Park; a son, Dale Sargent of Naples; two grandchildren, David and Lorrie; five step-grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Bonners Ferry.

Pearl Longley Wallace, Idaho

Graveside service for Pearl Rosalie Longley, 78, was Thursday at the Osburn Cemetery in Osburn, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service in Wallace is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Longley, who was born in Everett, died Tuesday.

She lived in San Francisco and worked for The Boeing Co. during World War II.

In 1948 she married Charles Longley.

They moved to the Silver Valley in 1965. She worked for Spunstrand Fiberglass Co., for 10 years and was a member of the Osburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years; two daughters, Carole O’Connell of Coeur d’Alene and Shirley Weigman of Wallace; two sons, Chuck Longley of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Al Longley of Absarokee, Mont.; a brother, Siever Bunch of Oregon; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

John Jeffries II Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Memorial service for John W. Jeffries II, 73, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Bonners Ferry Fire Department. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jeffries, who was born in Bonners Ferry, died Saturday from cancer.

He grew up in Bonners Ferry and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School and then received a degree from Kinman Business University.

Mr. Jeffries served with the Navy as an aviation storekeeper during World War II and then returned to the Bonners Ferry area.

He worked at various occupations, including farming and dairy work and owned the Shamrock Tavern.

Mr. Jeffries had also worked as a school bus driver for Boundary County School District and Boundary Headstart Program.

He was a volunteer firefighter for the Bonners Ferry Fire Department for 53 years.

Survivors include his wife, Chris, at home; and three children.

Hazel Motley Pullman

Visitation for Hazel Dawn Motley, 88, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Funeral is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Motley, who was born in LaCrosse, Wash., died Tuesday.

She married Walt Motley in 1933. He died in 1946.

Mrs. Motley worked as a cook at the Staley Ranch near Pullman and for many years lived in the home that is now the Staley Museum.

After moving into Pullman she began working as a Realtor for Franz-Johnson Real Estate and Insurance. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Motley & Motley.

Survivors include three sons, William and Jerry Motley, both of Pullman, and Al Motley of Lewiston; a sister, Frankie Puckett of Spokane; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Eva Rathbun Moscow, Idaho

Viewing for Eve A. Rathbun, 90, will be from 9 a.m to 9 p.m. today at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moscow. Burial will follow at Moscow Cemetery.

Mrs. Rathbun, who was born in Troy, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Moscow High School and received a teaching certificate from Lewis-Clark Normal School. She taught school in the Idaho towns of Deary and Troy and in the Tammany area near Lewiston.

In 1932 she married Arthur Rathbun and lived in Moscow where she was a homemaker.

She had also worked as a lab technician for the University of Idaho, as truck driver and a waitress.

Mrs. Rathbun was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she was active in several women’s groups and taught Bible studies and Sunday School.

Her husband died in 1984.

Survivors include three sons, Martin and Bernard Rathbun, both of Moscow, and Gordon Rathbun of St. Maries; a brother, Layton Kellberg of Pomeroy, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Verne Henson Pullman

Funeral for Verne A. Henson, 92, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pullman. Burial will follow at the Pullman City Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henson, who was born on a farm southwest of Pullman, died Tuesday.

He attended Bryan and Ewartsville, Wash., schools before attending Washington State University.

In the late 1930s and early 1940s he worked in the mining industry in Idaho, Montana and Canada before serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in the United States and England.

After the war he returned to the Pullman area, marrying Martha Schaefer in 1946. She died in 1980.

Mr. Henson opened Grange Insurance Office and Real Estate in Pullman in 1947. In 1950 he began farming south of Pullman. He continued to run Grange Insurance and farm until 1968, when he sold the business and began farming full-time. He retired in 1974.

He married Deloris Dunning in 1988.

Mr. Henson was a member of the Ewartsville Grange, Whitman County Permona Grange, Washington State Grange, National Grange, International Order of Odd Fellows, American Legion, Washington Association of Wheat Growers, the Pea and Lentil Growers Association and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gerald Henson of Pullman; a brother, Veryl Henson of Clarkston, Wash.; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Nita Harper Hayden Lake, Idaho

Private family service for Nita Marie Harper, 35, was Wednesday at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Harper, who was born in Sandpoint, died Monday.

She grew up in Sandpoint and in 1982 graduated from Sandpoint High School. She worked for Northland Cable and established cable television offices for the company throughout the United States.

She married Butch Harper in 1996 and lived in Mesquite, Texas for two years before moving to Hayden Lake in 1998.

Mrs. Harper was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include her husband, and a son, Jacob Harper at home; her parents, Clyde and Ruth Hoekema of Sagle, Idaho; a sister, Nadine Campbell of Sandpoint; a brother, Mark Hoekema of Newman Lake; and a grandmother, Mary Smith of Fairfield.

K.C. Martin Post Falls

Visitation for K.C. May Martin, two-day-old daughter of Ronald and Ronda Martin, will be today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene.

K.C. was born Saturday at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene. She died Monday.

Survivors include her parents, and a sister, Amanda Rapp at home; grandparents, Skip and Joyce Rapp of Post Falls, Jerry and Carol Martin, and Judy and Wes Krueger, all of Coeur d’Alene; and greatgrandparents, Ina Tenerowicz and Ed Tenerowicz, both of Boise.

Charles Slubowski Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Charles John “Chuck” Slubowski, 78. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Slubowski, who was born in Scranton, Pa., died Tuesday.

He graduated from high school and then served with the Army during World War II.

Mr. Slubowski settled in California after his military service and worked for Trans World Airlines for 31 years.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1987 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; a daughter, Donna Russell of Twin Lakes, Idaho; a brother, Frank Slubowski of Philadelphia; three sisters, Sophie Smith of Pennsylvania, Helen Curess of New Jersey and Nancy Parker of Indiana; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Irvin Green Spokane

Memorial service for Irvin Dean Green, 69, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at 1654 E. Francis. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Green died Tuesday.

He worked as a welder for Brown Trailers and Kilkom for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lois; four daughters, Dagne Kern, Kandy Haupt and Nancy Kadrmas, all of Spokane, and Georgia Springer of Seattle; two sons, Dean Green of Post Falls and Charles Green of Spokane; and nine grandchildren.

Fred Sauther Spokane

Visitation for Fred Sauther, 67, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 9 a.m. Saturday at Opportunity Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

A 27-year Spokane resident, Mr. Sauther died Wednesday. He was born in Billings, Mont.

He worked in the retail furniture industry.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Florence; a daughter, Anne Todd, and three sons, Gary, William and Thomas Sauther, all of Spokane; two sisters, Lorraine Duke and Berniece Toldness, both of Billings; five brothers, Armine, Walter, Willard and Arnold Sauther, all of Billings, and Victor Sauther of Spokane; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Anna Waltz Spokane

Memorial service for Anna L. Waltz, 60, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Waltz died Tuesday.

She graduated from North Central High School and moved to Seattle, where she worked at the Group Health Northwest Credit Union for a short time.

Mrs. Waltz returned to Spokane and began working in the rating department for United Pacific Insurance Co.

She was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 32 years, John; a son, Robert Raber of Salt Lake City; a brother, David Collingham of Colbert; and one granddaughter.
