Dialogue On World Views

The Renaissance Institute will present “Partners in Dialogue,” a conversation of differing world views, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th. The discussion will be mediated by the Rev. Rich Lang, director of Leadership Northwest.

The Renaissance Institute, a new organization started by Leadership Northwest, plans to offer classes on interfaith dialogues and differing world views. Discussions will occur monthly. They’re free. (443-6457)

Seminars

The New Life Center in Wilbur, Wash., will host a Breakthrough Seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday. The featured speaker will be Evelyn Diment, author of “God’s Get Well Hotel” and “Breakthrough from Caterpillars to Butterflies.”

The seminars are designed for people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, stress and low self-esteem.

The Living Faith Fellowship Ministry Training Center in Pullman will host a seminar, “Activating Your Church,” April 22-24 to provide ministers and lay people with practical ideas for ministry.

More than 50 workshops will be presented, with such topics as interior decorating, ushers, church finances, the computer in the growing church, evangelism, time management, Sunday school, worship and musical productions.

Cost: $70 per person, $130 per couple and $60 per person for groups of five or more; all prices include materials and two meals. Advance registration is requested, call (509) 334-1035. The church is at 1035 S. Grand in Pullman.

UCC conference

“Renew Your Church: Our Calling, Our Prayer” is the topic of the annual gathering of the Washington-North Idaho Conference of the United Church of Christ. This year’s event, April 23-25 at the Ridpath Hotel, will focus on inspiration, education and fellowship.

The conference is open to all Church of Christ members. Topics will include worship and preaching, service and outreach, and administration and planning.

Featured speakers include Martin Copenhaver, author of “Begin at the Beginning” and “Good News in Exile”; Kirk Hadaway, author of “Rerouting the Protestant Mainstream”; and Phyllis Anderson, director of the Institute for Ecumenical Theological Studies at Seattle University and former mayor of Missoula.

`Re-Membering’ program

St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church at 19th and Bernard will host “Re-Membering,” a program for returning Catholics, during April and May. The event is designed for nonpracticing Catholics interested in reconnecting with the Church. The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday with additional sessions scheduled for April 28 and May 5, 12 and 22. It’s not necessary to attend all sessions.

The meetings will include presentations on changes in Catholic tradition post-Vatican II, marriage and annulments, sin and reconciliation, and prayer and Bible scriptures. The series will end with the Sacrament of Reconciliation and a welcome home celebration during the 11 a.m. Mass on May 23. (747-4421)

`Y2K - The Play’ continues

“Y2K - The Play,” presented by the First Assembly of God Church, seems to be aiming for eternal life as it is brought back for yet another run. Performances have been so popular that organizers have added an additional three performances at 6 p.m. Sunday and on April 18 and 25.

Wiccan to talk

The next meeting of the discussion group of the North Idaho Unitarian Universalist Church will feature Jaqueline Almdale, a priestess of Wicca. Her talk, “The Craft of the Wise,” will cover myths surrounding witches and their religion.

The group meets at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Harding Family Center at 15th and Wallace in Coeur d’Alene.
