Backpacking

Reservations for backpacking permits in the Enchantment Lakes area of the Alpine Lakes Wildernesss area near Leavenworth, Wash., were booked for August and September by March 25, the Forest Service reports.

The Leavenworth Ranger District begins taking applications for a limited number of overnight permits to the popular wilderness area each year beginning March 1.

Access to the area is still available by applying for a Snow Lakes or Colchuck overnight permit, which allows day hikes through the Enchantment core.
