Step #1: Admit They Do Not Fit

What the Spokane area needs is a good 12-step program for people who insist on wearing jeans that are unflatteringly tight.

* Inland Northwest suggestion box: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” — Timothy Finneran

“A light rail system between Coeur d’Alene and Spokane and even on to Cheney.” — Dean Mathers

* Feedback: In response to Joe Schroeder’s suggestion that Bloomsday include a category for runners who aren’t built like whippets, Mike Momb noted that many races have a classification known as “Clydesdale.”

* It’s just the normal noises in here: Which of your co-workers can, in all likelihood, be heard yelling in the background on virtually every phonemail message you leave?

* Reminder: It won’t be long before Take Our Daughters To Hoopfest.

* Time travel: Are those who saw Elton John and Rod Stewart in concerts 25 years ago more likely or less likely to want to see them now?

* Slice answers: We heard from a North Idaho reader who said that after two decades spent flying in everything from B-17s to B-52s, her husband was told by a Veterans Administration doctor that his hearing loss likely stemmed from hunting. “Puhleez,” was our correspondent’s comment.

Another reader suggested that at least some Air Force retirees feign hearing problems as a way of dealing with their wives.

* “Too corporate, man”: How many others were graduated with a high school class that had essentially declared that proms were absurd and hadn’t bothered to have them?

* True facts: Some Princess Leia fantasies focus on that hairdo.

Few ninth-graders are Alvin Lee fans these days. “Goin’ home.”

That sound you hear at 1:37 a.m. is diets biting the dust.

* AndersonFest: If you have a back yard, there’s no reason not to refer to warm-weather activities such as Wiffle ball, squirt-gun battles and charring hot dogs as being part of “The (fill in your last name here) Family Music & Arts Festival.”

* Sooner or later: Daydreaming that Roma Downey and Shania Twain are a pair of spirited South Hill sisters fighting for your attention will start to erode your productivity at work.

* Today’s Slice question: What would it take for Spokane to become widely known as the best place in America to be a toddler?
