Jockey’S Hearing On Hold

A hearing on whether jockey Billy Patin carried an electrical device while riding Arkansas Derby winner Valhol might not be held until next week.

Byron Freedland, an attorney for the state racing commission, said the evidence-gathering process will take a while.

The timing of any hearing is important because horses will be entered in the Kentucky Derby on April 28, and Valhol has only $38,400 in graded stakes earnings without the $300,000 winner’s share from the Arkansas Derby. If more than 20 3-year-olds are entered in the Kentucky Derby, the top-20 money winners get to run.
