First Dog

Not exactly tiptoeing through the tulips, President Clinton’s chocolate-colored Labrador retriever Buddy emerges from a dip in a water fountain while playing on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday. The 1-1/2-year-old dog was named after an uncle of Clinton’s. The president once described efforts to reconcile Buddy and Socks, the longtime family cat, as “kind of like peace in Northern Ireland or peace in the Middle East.”
