Projects All Over Town

If a $15 million parks and recreation bond is placed on the ballot this fall and approved by voters, here is how some of the money would be spent:

Almost $5 million would be used to buy nearly six acres on the North Bank site to expand Riverfront Park.

About $3 million would pay off the move of the Spokane Parks Department to the Long Lake Lumber site in the Chief Garry Park neighborhood.

The remainder would be used to:

Repair and paint six swimming pools.

Repair 21 playgrounds and replace 15 others.

Renovate or build park restrooms.

Renovate tennis courts at Comstock and Grant parks.

Renovate or install new picnic shelters at Mission Park and Shadle Park.

Build a new skateboard park on the North Side.

Begin the first phase of a plan to improve Manito Park.

Develop three neighborhood parks that have been on the drawing board for years. These neighborhoods have taken preliminary steps toward a park already and the money will help them finish the work: Albany Heights in the southwest, Ben Burr on the southeast, and a community park on Five Mile Prairie.
