Stardust Memories
An auction of hundreds of props and costumes from a decade of Woody Allen films was not the stylish stuff of Christie’s or Sotheby’s. Instead, it looked like a typical Saturday flea market in New York, strewn with everything from junk to treasure, Americana filled with angst and kitsch. There were dance hall signs from old Coney Island and plastic beach balls, partially deflated. For $25, you could have bought a pair of 1930s mahogany radio consoles used in “Radio Days.” Ah, the good life.
