Churches Accommodate Bloomies

On Sunday morning the streets of downtown Spokane will be teeming with thousands of runners and walkers as another Bloomsday begins. Some South Side churches are altering their worship schedule this week to accommodate those planning to participate in the annual road race.

Bloomies are invited to wear their running clothes to a worship service at noon Sunday at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S. Garfield. A light lunch will be served following the service.

Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third, will host a joint worship service at noon Sunday with Jesus is the Answer Apostolic Church. A potluck lunch will follow. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a main dish, salad or dessert.

Manito United Methodist Church will begin its Bloomsday worship service at 7 p.m. Saturday. Bloomies are also invited to carbo load at a spaghetti dinner preceding the service at 5:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the meal.

Living Word Christian Center at 57th and Freya will have its Bloomsday worship service at 6 p.m. Saturday. Call 443-6181 for more information.

The Spokane Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will not have any services on Sunday. The church is located on the Bloomsday route.

Tours at St. John on Sunday

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th, will hold tours from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Guides will be on hand to explain the history of the Episcopal cathedral. The tours are free, and all are welcome.
