Superpops Brings Back Super Trio

Loyal SuperPops fans need no introduction to Bravo Broadway!

This is the fifth time this trio has appeared with the Spokane Symphony in various incarnations. The last time around, even the name was changed to Bravo Hollywood! But one thing has been consistent: They always put on a knockout of a show.

The format is simple: Get three top Broadway talents, put them together with some outstanding symphony arrangements and turn them loose on some of the most memorable show tunes of the last 75 years.

This year’s version should be as good as ever. While the personnel has changed over the years, this version has three names familiar from other visits:

Jan Horvath: A soprano, she was a member of the original Broadway company of “Phantom of the Opera” and has since appeared in Broadway versions of “The Threepenny Opera” (the version with Sting), “Sweet Charity,” “Stardust” and “Oliver!” She has appeared on TV in “All My Children” and “Loving.”

Doug LaBrecque: A tenor, he made his name as the Phantom in the Hal Prince production of “Phantom of the Opera.” He has since starred in “Showboat” on Broadway. He has appeared in the national tours of “Les Miserables” and “Sugar Babies.”

Michael Maguire: A bass, he established his reputation as Enroljas in the Broadway debut production of “Les Miserables.” He won a Tony for that role and went on to appear in the New York City Opera’s “A Little Night Music.” He is currently appearing as an actor in “The Deep End of the Ocean,” starring Michelle Pfeiffer.

Music director Fabio Mechetti will conduct the Spokane Symphony.

The first half of the show will include “All I Need is the Girl,” from “Gypsy”; “Tonight,” from “West Side Story”; Gershwin’s “S’Wonderful” and “I Got Rhythm,” and Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns.”

The second half will include “All That Jazz,” “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables,” “Cabaret,” and a suite from “Evita.”

If past performance is any guide, the quality of both the showmanship and the voices will be world-class. No wonder the symphony keeps asking them back.
