Gale `Shad’ Chambers Boise

Funeral Mass for Gale H. “Shad” Chambers, 66, was held in Boise. Burial was at Dry Creek Cemetery near Boise. Born near Burley, Idaho, Mr. Chambers died April 22.

He grew up in the Burley area and graduated from Burley High School. He attended Idaho State University as a journalism major.

Mr. Chambers worked for daily newspapers in Burley, Twin Falls and Pocatello, Idaho, and was an editor for the Idaho Farmer-Stockman Magazine from 1966 until 1987 when he retired due to illness.

He was a part-time contributing editor to the Farm Times in Rupert, Idaho, and was recognized with honors by various agriculture groups and committees. He had served as a speaker at many conventions and meetings.

Mr. Chambers received the Honorary Farmer Degree from the National Future Farmers of America in 1986 and was featured in a Portrait of a Distinguished Citizen article in the Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise in 1988.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Boise, the Knights of Columbus, and the Boise Exchange Club, where he served two terms as president. He served two terms on the Idaho State University Alumni Board of Directors and coached Golden Gloves Boxing for 11 years. He also was active with the Idaho Volunteers in Corrections Program.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Shirley; two sons, Gregory and Christopher Chambers; a daughter, Meghan Melton; two stepdaughters, Kathryn Willingham and Susan Mills; his father and stepmother, Howard and Emma Chambers; a sister, Shirlee Carey; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Anna Irwin Spokane

Memorial service for Anna Irwin, a 37-year Spokane resident, will be at 11 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Irwin, who was born in Buffalo, Wis., died Monday. She was 92.

She was a homemaker and a farmer.

Mrs. Irwin also was a horse enthusiast and a vocalist.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine Boggs; a sister, Palma Richardson; and three grandchildren.

Edward Passmore Spokane

Funeral for Edward J. “Eddie” Passmore, 23, was April 22 at Heritage Funeral Home.

A longtime Spokane resident, Mr. Passmore died April 16. He was born in Irving, Texas.

Mr. Passmore worked as a machine operator for a publishing company.

Survivors include his parents, Phil and Diana Passmore, and his grandmother, Cleo Cline, all of Spokane; his grandfather, John Passmore of Broken Bow, Okla.; and two brothers, Ronald and Brandon Passmore, both of Vancouver, Wash.

Patricia MacDonald Post Falls

A celebration of life for Patricia Elizabeth MacDonald, 73, will be Saturday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at 222 Ridgewood Drive in Post Falls. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. MacDonald, who was born in Omaha, Neb., died Monday.

She grew up in Los Angeles and in 1971 married Walter MacDonald.

She worked as a dental technician in California before retiring and moving to Post Falls in 1983.

Mrs. MacDonald also was an ordained Four-Square Minister and a member of the Post Falls Nazarene Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Andersen and Pauline Bowman, both of Post Falls, and Susan Jackson of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Helen McKenna of California; and six grandchildren.

Velma Swofford Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Velma Clara Swofford, 92, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Swofford, who died Tuesday, was born in Iowa.

She lived in North Dakota before settling in Mullan, Idaho, in 1941. She was a homemaker and worked as a manager, cook and baker at restaurants in the Silver Valley and Coeur d’Alene, including the Modern Drug Store.

Two husbands preceded her in death: John Ayars died in 1968, and Leonard Swofford died in 1990.

Mrs. Swofford is survived by a son, Willis Ayars of Oklahoma; four daughters, Estella Miller of Wenatchee, Myrtle Stephenson of Spokane, Marcella Maughon of Georgia and Marion McCauley of Rathdrum, Idaho; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Patricia Johnson Kellogg

Service for Patricia Ann Johnson, 71, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wallace. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Shoshone Funeral Service in Wallace is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Burke, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Wallace High School in 1946 and worked in insurance sales in Wallace for several years.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Her husband of 24 years, Ted, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Michael Miller, and a daughter, Penny Krug, both of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Betty Landreth Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Betty Rae Landreth, 76, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Oklahoma, Mrs. Landreth died Saturday.

She married John Landreth in 1946 and later moved to Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Landreth as a member of Coeur d’Alene Christian Church for many years before joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1952.

She worked in direct sales for various companies and was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority.

Her husband died in 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Patrice Munson of Noxon, Mont., and Janiece Saunders of Dallas, Ore.; four sons, Robert and Richard Landreth, both of Coeur d’Alene, John Landreth of Colorado and Dwight Landreth of Great Falls, Mont.; a sister, Roberta Blankenship of California; 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Chris Christopherson Silverton, Idaho

No service will be held for Chris Christopherson at his request. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Christopherson, who was born in North Dakota, died Tuesday. He was 88.

He lived in North Dakota and moved to the Silver Valley in 1935. He worked in the timber and mining industries, including Bunker Hill Mine for 12 years.

Mr. Christopherson also owned the Bedroom Gold Mine and Store in Murray, Idaho, and was a past member of the Wallace Eagles.

His wife of 41 years, Lucille, died in 1990.

Survivors include a sister, Ann Sims of Silverton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Guy Swaim Jr. Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Guy Swaim Jr. at his request. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Swaim, who was born in Hope, Idaho, died Tuesday. He was 81.

He graduated from high school in Rose Lake, Idaho, and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1941 he married Charlotte Burkhart, and they settled in the Silver Valley. He worked for various mines and in 1948 moved to Lewiston, where he worked at the Potlatch Mill. He also was a logger.

In 1970 he moved to Uniontown, Wash., and owned a service station until 1985 when he retired and moved to Coeur d’Alene.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Darlene Johnson and Bobbie Stickney, both of Oregon; a brother, Vernon Swaim of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Melba Maricich of Lewiston; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
