Fred Newman Ione, Wash.
Funeral for Fred William Newman, a lifetime Pend Oreille County resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ione First Congregational Church. Graveside service will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Ione. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Newman, who was born in Lost Creek, Wash., died Thursday. He was 68.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Newman later worked in the commercial construction industry on projects such as the pulp mill in Cusick, Wash., and Boundary, Box Canyon and Dworshak dams. He also worked as a logger.
In 1956 he married Shirley Graham. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Newman is survived by three daughters, Cheryl Maupin, Michele Lopes and Christine Blount; four brothers, Bob, Willard, Ward, and his twin, Ted; two sisters, Annabelle Vaughn and Bessie Lindquist; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Anders Blegen Spokane
Memorial service for Anders R. Blegen, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Blegen, 85, died Thursday. He was born in Helena.
A 75-year Spokane resident, he graduated from West Valley High School and served in the Army during World War II.
In 1945 he married Patricia Clark.
Mr. Blegen owned Clarks Dry Goods in Spokane for more than 40 years.
He was a member of the El Katif Shrine and was a member and past president of the Eastside Kiwanis.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a son, Douglas Blegen of Portland; four daughters, Andrea Weaver and Claudia Flores, both of Spokane, and Karen Bensel of Portland and Patrice Phillips of Seattle; a sister, Helen Dahlke of Spokane; and seven grandchildren.

Pamela Casteel Harrington, Wash.
Graveside service for Pamela K. Casteel, 46, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrington. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Casteel, who was born in Olympia, died Tuesday.
She was a care taker for the elderly in the home health care industry.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Copeland of Fairbanks, Alaska; two stepsons, Tim and Michael Halling; and her father, John Covert of Nenana, Alaska; and two grandchildren.

Lucille Walters Vancouver, Wash.
Graveside service for Lucille Anna Walters, 82, is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse, Wash. Layne’s Funeral Home in Battle Ground, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Palouse, Mrs. Walters died Friday.
She worked at the Naval Supply Depot in Spokane during World War II and later became a beautician.
Mrs. Walters lived in Spokane, Cheney and Harrington, Wash., for many years before moving to the Portland area 11 years ago. She had been living in Vancouver for the past year.
She was a longtime member of the Christian Church in Palouse.
Her first husband, Ernest Lynch, died in 1965. Her second husband, Karl Walters, died in 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Garry Lynch of Battle Ground and Steven Lynch of Portland; a stepbrother, Robert Irwin of Vancouver; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
