AutoNation Inc. announced plans to separate its rental-car business so the rest of the company can focus on auto sales. The rental division includes National Car Rental, Alamo Rent-A-Car and CarTemps USA.
CBS Corp. credited strong growth in its television and radio businesses for a large jump in second-quarter earnings. CBS reported Monday it earned $95 million, or 13 cents a share, compared with $4 million, or 1 cent a share, in the same period a year ago. The earnings matched Wall Street expectations.
Convergys Corp., which provides billing and customer services to wireless companies, said it won a three-year, $1 billion extension of its contract with AT&T Corp.’s wireless unit. The contract, which was to expire in 2001, will now end in 2004. Convergys has been providing services to AT&T Wireless and its predecessor, McCaw Cellular Communications Inc., for 16 years.
