Excite@Home shares plunged more than 10 percent Monday following a report that AT&T Corp. was in talks with America Online Inc. to allow it to offer Internet services over the phone company’s cable network. In a statement Monday, AT&T denied that any specific discussions were ongoing, though it acknowledged it has talked with AOL in the past.

Dell Computers said it plans in the next few months to offer clients buying its popular Dimension desktop PCs and Inspiron notebook computer line the option of choosing the Linux operating system over Windows 95, 98 or NT.
