Christie Mitchell Spokane
Private services will be held for Christie Lee (Bakken) Mitchell, 46. A gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at 10230 N. College Road. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mitchell, who was born in Sandpoint, died Tuesday.
She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Spokane Community College.
Mrs. Mitchell worked as a secretary for several years at various accounting firms.
Survivors include her husband, Michael; a daughter, Jessica Hicks; her mother, Shirley Stolle; three brothers, John and Jeff Bakken, and Victor Stolle; two sisters, Pamela Galloway and Cassie Stolle; and a grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association or Hospice of Spokane.
Helen Thomas Spokane
Visitation for Helen Ann Thomas, 80, will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A 47-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Thomas died Wednesday. She was born in Vancouver, B.C.
She worked in the banking industry for several years.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Her husband, Robert, died in 1997.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Tom and Teresa McCabe, Marla and Jeff Johnson, and Gary Woltvet, all of Spokane, and Trudy and Dell Dahl of Bremerton.
Marie Mudge Spokane
Private graveside service for Marie Susan (Hamblet) Mudge, 95, will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 71-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Mudge, died Tuesday. She was born in Hailey, Idaho.
She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church Her husband, John, died in 1967.
Survivors include a son, Bob Mudge of Spokane; a daughters, Claudia Hepburn of Grangeville, Idaho; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church or the Senior Homes Foundation in care of Lilac Plaza Retirement Home.
Ruth Rivers Spokane
Funeral for Ruth Marilyn Rivers will be at 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.
Mrs. Rivers, who was born in Dickinson, N.D., died Tuesday. She was 64.
Her family moved to Spokane in 1940, and she graduated from Rogers High School in 1953.
Mrs. Rivers worked as a supervisor at Consumer Opinion Service for 11 years. She also worked for American Window Systems and Moland Greeting Card Co.
She was a member of a singing trio that entertained at various nursing homes in the area.
Survivors include a son, Lonnie Rivers of Spokane; two daughters, Cheryl Hart of Spokane and Laurie Dale of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two sisters, Ellen Mattheis of Orlando and Betty McManus of Midwest City, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Institute.
Frank Durrant Spokane
Funeral for Frank T. “Ted” Durrant will be at 11 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Durrant died Monday. He was 71.
He served in the National Guard.
Mr. Durrant worked in the lumber industry at Standard Lumber, Diamond Lumber and Georgia Pacific. He retired in 1990 as a warehouseman.
He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 690, Coast Guard Auxiliary and Pines Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Irena; five sons, Michael Koch of Spokane, Byron Koch of Liberty Lake, Tom Durrant of Otis Orchards, and Don Durrant and Douglas Koch, both of Anchorage, Alaska; six daughters, Carol Phillips of Otis Orchards, LaVada Hunter of Diamond Lake, Wash., Elizabeth Taylor of Seattle, Sherri Montgomery of San Diego, Maxine Koch of Stevenson, Wash., and Mary Anne Ledford of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Durrant of Spokane and Doug Durrant of Valleyford; 29 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Laura Crawford Spokane
Memorial service for Laura E. Crawford, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at Sheridan (Mont.) Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Crawford, who was born in Sheridan, died Tuesday. She was 75.
She served with the Navy during World War II and was stationed at Farragut Naval Station in Idaho.
Mrs. Crawford graduated from a business college in Salt Lake City.
She owned and operated an office supply company in San Diego for several years.
Mrs. Crawford moved to Spokane in 1968 and worked as a secretary for an office supply company. She retired in 1989.
She was a member of the Inland Northwest Veterans WAVES National Unit 140 and was a volunteer for the Senior Times.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Sandra Ross of Spokane; two brothers, Daniel Raymond of Renton, Wash., and Clarke Raymond of Naco, Ariz.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Horizon Hospice.
Brian Detlaff Spokane
Memorial service for Brian M. Detlaff, 22, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Detlaff died Wednesday.
He graduated from University High School in 1995.
Mr. Detlaff was employed at the Spokane Country Club and Federal Express.
Survivors include a son, Joshua McElfresh of Spokane; a daughter, Ripley Detlaff of Spokane; his parents, George and Sherry Detlaff of Spokane; a brother, Robert Detlaff of Helena; and a sister, Laura Bowman of Athol, Idaho.

Ann Flickinger Spokane
No services will be held for Ann Lucille Flickinger, 80, at her request. She will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Flickinger, who was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, died Wednesday.
She graduated from North Central High School.
Mrs. Flickinger worked as a traffic manager for 38 years at Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co.
Her husband, Norman, died in 1951.
Survivors include two nephews, Jimmy and Laramie Rice, both of Spokane.

Mavis Heath Spokane
Memorial service for Mavis A. Heath will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime resident of Spokane, Mrs. Heath died Sunday. She was 79.
She worked as an insurance underwriter for several years.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Heath of Spokane and Wayne Heath of Kent, Wash.; and three granddaughters.

Donald Hoback Spokane
Vigil service for Donald A. Hoback, 79, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Trentwood. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 19-year Spokane resident, Mr. Hoback died Monday. He was born in Union, Neb.
He served with the Army Air Corps for six years, including during World War II.
Mr. Hoback retired in 1975 as crew chief from the Bureau of Reclamation at Coulee Dam. He also was a deputy sheriff in Coulee Dam.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothy; a son, Charles Hoback of Spokane; two daughters, Janice Ferreira and Marilyn Tibbett, both of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Vianney Building Fund.
David Weddle Spokane
Memorial service for David Oliver Weddle, 56, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Covenant Fellowship in the Spokane Junior Academy Building, 1505 W. Cleveland. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 15-year Spokane resident, Mr. Weddle, died Monday.
He was born in Tonasket, Wash., and graduated from high school there in 1961.
Mr. Weddle graduated from Productivity Point International and worked as a certified systems engineer for Microsoft and for a local internet service provider. He also worked as a financial adviser.
Survivors include his wife, Lori; three sons, Jason, Christopher and David Weddle; three daughters, Rachel, Elizabeth and Dominique Weddle; three stepsons, Kevin Newman and Daniel and Samuel Kruger; a stepdaughter, Esther Kruger; his mother, Adria Wilson of Tonasket; eight brothers, Henry, Daniel and Richard Weddle, all of Tonasket, Arthur, John and James Weddle, all of Spokane, Steven Weddle of Westport, Wash., and Gary Weddle of East Wenatchee; and two sisters, Ramona Bailey of Tonasket and Linda Foster of Burien, Wash.
Paul Hastings Spokane
Memorial service for Paul Hastings will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Hastings died Sunday. He was 85.
He graduated from North Central High School in 1933 and then entered the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Mr. Hastings married Eunice Wilson in 1939.
In 1955 he founded Yard Marvel Manufacturing Co., which manufactured tillers, power rakes and plugger-aerators. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Eagles, Elks and Moose lodges, the Downriver Twilight and Esmeralda golf leagues and the American Rental Association.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marilee Worthington and Tricia Hastings, both of Spokane, and Jan Thread of Bellevue, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

A.J. `Bud’ Kleckner Kalispell, Mont.
Memorial service for A.J. “Bud” Kleckner, 78, will be today at 4 p.m. at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home in Kalispell.
A former Davenport, Wash., resident, Mr. Kleckner, died Monday. He was born in Seattle.
He served in the merchant marine from 1941-1945.
In 1946 Mr. Kleckner married Ruth Memmen. They later divorced.
He worked as a telegrapher out of Harrington, Wash., for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern railroads for 31 years. He retired in 1982 and moved to Kalispell a few years later.
He was a member of the Transportation Communications Union.
Survivors include a son, Chris Kleckner of Spokane; a daughter, Linda Erickson of Kalispell; a sister, Emeline Shipman of Chewelah, Wash.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Betty Pitts Spokane
Funeral service for Betty Jane Pitts, 74, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.
A 35-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Pitts died Tuesday. She was born in Lincoln, Neb.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse for more than 20 years at Eastern State Hospital.
Survivors include four sons, Douglas, LeRoy, Anthony and David Pitts, all of Spokane; three sisters, Frances Wyatt of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Eleanor Caves and Carol Hoover, both of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital For Children or the American Heart Association.
Cyrus Syverson Spokane
No service will be held for Cyrus “Cy” Syverson, 85. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 68-year resident of Spokane, Mr. Syverson, died Saturday. He was born in Bemidji, Minn.
He married Lois Andrews in 1937; she preceded him in death.
He worked as a mail handler for the Postal Service for several years.
Survivors include a son, Burt Syverson; a daughter, Carol Kelly; and four grandchildren.
