Cougs’ Taylor Will Do Two More Days

Carter Strickland Staff Writer

Washington State wide receiver Nian Taylor pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree malicious mischief in Whitman County District Court on Tuesday and received a two-day jail term.

The senior co-captain was sentenced to 365 days in jail with 362 days suspended and two years probation. Taylor served one day in jail when he was arrested in June and with time served, has just two days left on his jail sentence. He was also ordered to undergo domestic violence counseling and must pay $511 in damages in addition to court costs.

Taylor was also initially charged with fourth-degree assault, but those charges were resolved. If Taylor stays out of trouble during his probationary period the assault charges will be dismissed.

Both the malicious mischief and assault charges were the result of an incident in June when police were called to an apartment where Taylor had broken down the door and then punched his ex-girlfriend in the chest.

Taylor wasn’t at practice on Tuesday due to the court proceedings, but WSU coach Mike Price said his offensive captain has already served his debt to the football team.

“He has been punished already by the football department,” said Price. “He was suspended for a month in the summer, he couldn’t go to the weight room, which is like death for these guys, or be a part of the team.”

Price is not sure when Taylor will serve his jail time.
