Name: Read ‘em and Eat!

Group history: Just-formed group of eight women, long-time friends, who plan to meet monthly (once during the summer) at restaurants that, as group representative Pat Hartnett says, “have some type of connection to the book.” Each group member is required to choose a book and location, “But,” Hartnett says, “we’re not real, strongly organized like some groups.”

Book reviewed: “The Pilot’s Wife” (Little Brown, 290 pages, $13.95) by Anita Shreve.

The review: For discussion of Shreve’s book, the group went, naturally, to the Skyway Cafe at Felts Field for breakfast. September’s book will be Adeline Yen Mah’s “Falling Leaves,” and the group will meet at the Park Bench in Manito Park. As for “The Pilot’s Wife,” Hartnett says, “We all enjoyed it. We enjoyed Anita Shreve’s writing. It moved along real quickly… It’s a tragic story. You know it right off. It has sadness to it, but it does end on a positive note. So it’s uplifting.”
