Connection: Few Local Restrictions

Spokane city library users get generally unrestricted access to the Internet.

Users of the nine Spokane County libraries also cruise the Net without any controls or filters. However, all county libraries last week installed a filtered search engine, an option for users who want to avoid unsavory locations.

Each county library has one PC near its children’s books that operates with an Internet filter. “All the other work stations have no restrictions at all,” said Assistant County Library Director Lyn Dedas.

Kootenai County’s branch libraries don’t restrict Internet access from any of their computers. Parents may, however, restrict their children from using the library’s computers.
