They Might Be Giants
A giant panda gave birth to a rare three-cub litter this week in southwest China’s Sichuan province, but the smallest of the three cubs has died, the Xinhua News Agency reported Saturday.
The other two cubs were healthy.
Giant pandas, an endangered species, usually give birth to only one or two cubs. The animals are not prolific breeders, and the survival rate for cubs is low.
The giant panda is native only to China. Only about 1,000 survive in captivity and in the wild.
