Make Vision A Reality
COVER LETTER
When I look out on this city we love, the view I see generally is positive, but I do not overlook our city’s significant challenges, including creating higher-paying jobs, reducing crime, improving roads, and encouraging growth and economic development. Effective leadership to deal with those issues requires asking tough questions, a willingness to listen and the ability to make thoughtful decisions.
I was elected to the Spokane City Council in 1995 because of those abilities, evidenced by my strong leadership and business skills and my balanced approach. Things I have learned since then are that the city’s coffers are barely able to provide needed services, that the bureaucracy responds slowly to change, that miscommunications occur between city staff and citizens, and that we have a great group of positive, caring citizens living in Spokane. If Spokane is to prosper, it must have strong economic development, increased partnerships and participation, and better communications between neighborhoods and government.
My vision for Spokane is to unite citizens, neighborhoods, government, businesses and organizations as partners, working to bring a “can-do” spirit back to our city. I ask that you re-elect me to the Spokane City Council so that I may continue to work on making that vision a reality.
