Riverfest On Spokane River
Like a jewel that needs polishing, the Spokane River is in need of some cleaning. And you are invited to help do just that Saturday.
Northwest River Ecology is coordinating RiverFest, a clean-up effort that will tackle the shoreline from the Maple Street Bridge to Seven Mile.
Volunteers will meet at High Bridge Park at 8 a.m. and be bused to assigned sections. Children as young as 5, if accompanied by an adult, are welcome. Wear shoes suitable for hiking the terrain along the river and bringing your own gloves.
Work will take about 2 hours. Volunteers will be returned to High Bridge Park for a barbecue.
This is the fifth RiverFest in seven years. Previous efforts have removed an estimated 16 tons of trash from the riverbanks.
