Dear Heloise: One day, while making tacos for my children, I was frustrated over having to heat the taco shells on a cookie sheet. The shells collapse, and when they cool, it is difficult to fill them.

Instead, I tried turning a muffin tin upside down and putting the taco shells in the spaces between muffin cups. It worked great! - Melissa McCluney, Houston

Before leaving home for a trip:

Unplug your coffeepot.

Unplug the curling iron, electric curlers and shaver.

Check the thermostat and set it lower or higher, as needed.

Check doors and windows for security.
