Gonzaga’S 60 Rebounds Too Much For Eastern

Gonzaga University collected 60 rebounds to make up for a poor shooting night Tuesday as the Bulldogs defeated Eastern Washington 61-44 in a non-conference women’s basketball game played at Cheney before 806 fans.

Both teams suffered from the field, Gonzaga (2-2) shooting 32 percent and EWU (2-2) just 21 percent. But the Bulldogs enjoyed a 24-rebound edge on the boards.

Sydney Perno collected 13 rebounds and Jessica Malone 10 for the Bulldogs.

No player scored in double figures. Erin Bergman and Tennille Jeffries had nine points apiece for Gonzaga while five other teammates had seven each. Jennifer Paluck scored eight points for EWU.

Leading by eight at the half, Community Colleges of Spokane outscored the Whitworth College JVs by 18 in the second half en route to a 70-44 non-conference victory.

Amy George (Ferris) was the only Sasquatch player in double figures with 12 points as a dozen CCS players scored.

Angie Lewis sank 4 of 6 shots from 3-point range on her way to a game-high 16 points as she led North Idaho College over Columbia Basin 82-48 at Coeur d’Alene in a non-conference game.

Eastern Washington University sophomore forward Allie Bailey (Mead) was selected Big Sky Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.

In two games last week at the Loyola Marymount Furama Classic in Los Angeles, Bailey averaged 13.5 points and 12.5 rebounds. She was an all-tournament pick.
