Idaho Gets Tourism Boost

From Staff

Tourism in Idaho got a $1.15 million boost from the 1996 Society of American Travel Writer’s annual conference in Boise, state officials say.

Participants in the five-day conference generated more than 80 articles during the next two years, placed in publications with a combined circulation of 33 million.

The value of each article is calculated on what it would cost to buy the same space as advertising.

The articles featured everything from North Idaho’s lakes to the state’s Basque heritage and rafting on the Salmon River.

“Hosting the convention was good for all of Idaho,” said Carl Wilgus, administrator of the Idaho Division of Tourism Development.

The bid to secure the event for Idaho was developed by the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau with the Idaho Travel Council.
