Oregon Boy Critical After Attack By Dog
An 8-year-old Gervais, Ore., boy was in critical condition at University Hospital Tuesday afternoon after being bitten repeatedly in the neck by a dog.
Jesus Gasca was riding his bicycle near his baby sitter’s house near Woodburn when the dog, a chow mix, attacked him, the Marion County sheriffs office said.
The dog was tied up but attacked as the boy came near and bit the child repeatedly, authorities said. When deputies and firefighters arrived they found Jesus lying in the back yard with massive injuries to his neck.
The owners of the dog, David and Celeste Ramon, surrendered the animal to county dog control authorities. It later was euthanized.
Deputy Randy Corey said the Ramons’ 20-year-old daughter, who was baby-sitting Jesus, tried to distract the dog by throwing rocks. But it wasn’t until Celeste Ramon arrived home that the boy was rescued.
Corey said no charges are contemplated against the Ramons.
