Custom Cabinet Builder Opens On Montgomery

Cabinet Systems, a business that builds and installs custom storage cabinets for garages, work spaces and businesses, has opened at 11616 E. Montgomery.

Owner Rex Watson started the business to fill a need and to allow him more time with his young son and daughter.

“There are a lot of good people in town who do closets,” said Watson, who will display his products at upcoming home shows at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center.

But, he said, the idea of organizing garages with permanent shelves, drawers and cabinets hasn’t caught on in this area, as it has in other regions.

Watson’s storage units are built with particle board and/or peg board. He also creates racks for skis, golf clubs, bicycles and fishing rods.

Retirement center expands

Evergreen Valley Center will add two new buildings to its nine-acre campus by August, boosting its living units to 53. The retirement community on Evergreen Road caters to residents 55 and older.

An 11-unit building currently is under construction and will open in April, said sales manager Dennis Redford. A second new building will be finished in August.

The units sell for $80,000 to $140,000 and range from 800 to 1,400 square feet.

Evergreen currently has 30 completed units. Twenty-three of them are occupied.

Evergreen’s campus includes a 12,000-square-foot community center with a dining hall, chapel, library, hair salon, salon spa and exercise rooms.

Transmission shop opens

Custom Transmission, a transmission repair shop, has opened at 14415 E. Sprague.

Valley resident Steve Allbee owns and operates the shop, which specializes in Ford, General Motors and Dodge vehicles. Other makes are welcome.
