Cv-Prep Games Go To Sfcc
The Greater Spokane League basketball doubleheader between Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep on Friday has been moved to Spokane Falls Community College.
Prep athletic director Mike Arte said the move was made to accommodate fans and reward players, following the interest generated when the schools met at CV last Thursday.
Arte, also the Bullpups girls coach, said the loss of home-court advantage will be made up by atmosphere for the players and the ability for more fans to see the game.
The Prep gym is overflowing with 1,000 spectators. SFCC holds about 2,500. The doubleheader at CV drew about 2,000 fans.
The boys and girls games have also been flip-flopped, the girls playing first at 6:45 p.m., followed by the boys game at 8:30.
There should be plenty of fans after last week’s games.
The CV girls pulled away in the final minutes to win 58-50.
The boys game was even better. Prep raced to a 30-14 halftime lead only to see the Bears come back to go up by one with 8 seconds left. Greg Johnson beat the buzzer with a 12-foot bank shot to give the Bullpups a 51-50 lead.
That was the first loss for then second-ranked CV.
