Cupid Sometimes Visits Us In Slumber
Lovers, prepare yourselves. Here come Valentine’s Day and Cupid, the chubby, mischievous angel.
Cupid loves to make his rounds and he sometimes visits us in our sleep. He knows our dreams are fertile ground for “Romance in the Making,” which is fine with me. I say let him go ahead and shoot me with his arrows, piercing my heart wide open. There’s always room for more love and compassion in this world.
Dear Nancy: I am a 25-year-old single woman. Although many of my friends are married, I’m in no hurry to wed as I’m having a great time being single. Although I attended several weddings this year, I can think of no particular incident that would have sparked this dream. By the way, my dad is a great father and a wonderful husband to my mom. - Jo
I’m in a restaurant with my family. I notice a man leaning against a partition. He is Jeremy Pivens from TV’s “Cupid.” I think, “Wow. There’s Cupid.” I start talking to him and suddenly an image of my father replaces him, like a hologram. It feels like a sign that says, “Here is a perfect man.”
We continue talking, but the conversation doesn’t seem important. A narrator’s voice interrupts: “They fall in love and eventually get married.”
Dear Jo: Some of us are lucky to have great fathers, and this dream shows how much you love and appreciate yours. All dreams come to teach and serve us, and it is our job to open ourselves to the message.
Could your dream be asking you to look for someone with qualities similar to your dad? Perhaps Cupid has someone in mind for you, someone who will remind you of him.
Little girls often want to marry their fathers. Is this still true of you on some level? Maybe you should ask yourself if you idealize your father too much, which can sometimes be a problem. The dream may also be portraying your inner marriage of both your masculine and feminine sides.
Dear Nancy: I’m a single mother and I had this vivid, powerful dream one week before I met an incredible man.
I am with a tall, dark, handsome man who loves me very much. He is seven months pregnant and I can feel the baby’s heart beat. - Elizabeth
Dear Elizabeth: This could be a precognitive dream forecasting a budding relationship.
The man’s pregnancy may illustrate a union full of potential, new direction and new life.
The dream may not be about the man you just met, so don’t get discouraged if that relationship doesn’t work out; it could be someone else.
This dream could also be seen as the successful integration of the masculine and feminine within yourself, and the child might be a symbol of the creativity and potential of that union.
Dear Nancy: The other night I dreamed I was in bed with a boy from my high school. I graduated 54 years ago and haven’t seen him in all this time. Why would I dream about him? My husband died two years ago, and deep down, I would like to marry again. - Ann
Dear Ann: Why not look up your high school friend? There have been many instances of people getting together because of a dream.
Maybe Cupid has a surprise in store for you.
