Mark Viii Replacement To Be Jaguar-Based
Lincoln is cutting loose the Mark VIII, but not without coming up with a replace ment for the 2000 model year.
This sounds interesting: the all-new, rear-drive LS-Series cars will be based on a new mid-size Jaguar platform featuring double wishbone suspension front and rear. There’s all-speed traction control, yaw control and anti-lock brakes all standard and if you buy the V-6, you can even get a stick shift.
The LS6 will have a 200-hp 3-liter V-6, while the LS8 gets a 220 hp, 3.9-liter V-8. Both models will be available with a five-speed automatic or a SelectShift box with semi-manual mode.
The Continental got a makeover last year, but comes back for ‘99 with side front airbags, and the Navigator gets a new engine, the 300-hp, 5.4-liter V-8 Intech, and adjustable foot pedals.
