Henry SiJohn Plummer, Idaho

Rosary for Henry Joseph SiJohn, a Coeur d’Alene Tribal Council leader, will be today at 7 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Community Center in DeSmet, Idaho. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the community center. Burial will follow at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Cemetery in DeSmet. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. SiJohn, who was born in Lovell Valley, Idaho, died Tuesday. He was 81.

He grew up and attended school at the Sacred Heart Mission School in DeSmet and also attended Tekoa (Wash.) High School, the Chemawa Indian School in Chemawa, Ore., and the Sherman Institute in California.

He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II.

In 1949 Mr. SiJohn graduated from the University of Idaho and in 1951 received a master’s degree in music from Gonzaga University.

He taught for 27 years off the Coeur d’Alene Reservation, including at Coeur d’Alene High School, Rosebud Indian School in South Dakota, Fort Wingate High School in New Mexico and St. Anthony’s Boys School in California.

He also taught at the University of Washington at Shoreline and Eastern Washington State College, where he served as director of the Indian Studies program.

Mr. SiJohn served more than 16 years on the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Council and was recently vice-chairman.

He was a member of Joseph R. Garry American Legion Post No. 5, National Indian Environment Council and the Northwest Portland Indian Area Health Board.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia SiJohn of Spokane; a brother, Isaac SiJohn of Plummer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean Rettkowski Wilbur, Wash.

Funeral for Jean P. Rettkowski, 74, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Wilbur Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rettkowski, who was born in Chicago, died Tuesday.

She grew up in Park Ridge, Ill., and graduated from Township High School in 1942. In 1946 she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Latin from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., and moved to Wilbur, where she taught and worked as a school librarian at Wilbur High School. She married James Rettkowski in 1947.

In the early 1950s, she was a librarian at the Hesseltine Public Library in Wilbur, later serving on the board of trustees for several years. In 1968 she returned to the position of librarian, working there until earlier this year.

In 1964 Mrs. Rettkowski joined the Wilbur Register staff as a reporter and working as a proofreader, until earlier this year. Mrs. Rettkowski was also a correspondent for the Spokane Daily Chronicle at one time.

She and her husband traveled extensively in the United States and abroad, including South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, East Africa, Japan, China, Indonesia and Thailand. They also hosted several foreign exchange students over the years.

Mrs. Rettkowski was a member of Wilbur Presbyterian Church, Wilbur Grange 798, Lincoln County Pamona Grange and the state and national granges. She was a member of the Chicago Chapter of the NSDAR for 50 years, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Steiff and Hummel Clubs. She was a Cub Scout den mother.

Survivors include two sons, Barry Rettkowski of Spokane and David Rettkowski of Wilbur; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Hesseltine Public Library in Wilbur.

Glorianne Goetz Fishkill, N.Y.

Memorial service for Glorianne Goetz, a longtime resident of the Spokane area, will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane.

Ms. Goetz, who was born in Spokane, died Jan. 11. She was 70.

She graduated from the Annie Wright Seminary in Tacoma and later from Colby College in New London, N.H.

Ms. Goetz returned to the Spokane area before moving to various places, including Germany and Nevada. She later moved back to Spokane.

She moved to Fishkill a few years ago.

Survivors include two daughters, Victoria Raabin of Fishkill and Marjorie Bolokowski of El Cajon, Calif.; a son, Malte Bischoff of Moscow, Russia; and a brother, Wallace Goetz of Surprise, Ariz.

Charles `Joe’ Henry Moses Lake

Funeral for Charles “Joe” Henry, 78, will be at 10 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moses Lake. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henry, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.

He married Geraldine Harrison in 1943.

Mr. Henry served with the Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

He was a resident of Deer Park for 33 years.

Mr. Henry worked as a night foreman at the Deer Park Pine Industries sawmill for 18 years before moving to Moses Lake, where he worked as a pump shop foreman for the U&I Sugar Co. He retired in 1981.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Henry of Walla Walla and Michael Henry of Eureka, Mont.; three daughters, Mary Bruck and Patti Lopez, both of Spokane, and Harriet Vines of Sequim, Wash.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

June Dillon Spokane

A reception for June L. Dillon, 78, will be at 12:30 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A 35-year Spokane and Chattaroy area resident, Mrs. Dillon died Tuesday.

Born in Duluth, Minn., she married John Dillon in 1944 and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Chuck Dillon of Ione, Wash., Dan Dillon of Burien, Wash., and Mike Dillon of Missoula; a daughter, Lorraine Dillon of Spokane; a brother, Harvey Hanson of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Patricia White Spokane

Private service was held for Patricia L. White, 80.

Mrs. White, who was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, died Saturday.

She graduated from Princeton (British Columbia) High School and attended Washington State University.

Mrs. White moved to Spokane in 1938 and worked as a secretary at Harders Lumber Co. until 1950. She was also a homemaker.

Her husband of 52 years, Ray, died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Raemarie White of Clarkston, Wash.; a son, Tony White, and a sister, Margaret Wylie, both of Spokane; and one grandson.

Lillian Loland Spokane

Memorial service for Lillian Loland, 92, will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 20 at Christ Lutheran Church. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Loland, who was born in Minneota, Minn., died Tuesday.

She moved to Spokane from Clearbrook, Minn., in 1968 and worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Good Samaritan Nursing Homes in Greenacres and Fairfield. She also worked at University Manor in Spokane for many years. She retired in 1983.

Mrs. Loland was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.

Her husband, John, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Vern Loland of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Ruth Jarvis of Veradale; a sister, Mildred Myrvik of Minneota; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Lena Corigliano Spokane

Funeral Mass for Lena Corigliano, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Corigliano, who was born in Portland, died Monday.

She moved to Spokane in 1933 and was a homemaker.

She was an active member of St. Patrick Parish and Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph; two sons, Ronald and Anthony Corigliano, both of Spokane; three daughters, Nerita Brockett, Marietta Menetto and Denise Scarpelli, all of Spokane; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Cecil Harrison Post Falls

No service will be held for Cecil Earl Harrison, 82, at his request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harrison, who was born in Walla Walla, died Monday.

He lived in Mead, Spokane, and Harrison, Idaho, before moving to Post Falls in 1957. He worked at Idaho Veneer as a planer operator before retiring in 1982.

Mr. Harrison served with the Army artillery during World War II and received numerous honors, including the Bronze Star, the American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal, World War II Medal, Sharp Shooters Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He had also worked for the Post Falls Ambulance and Fire Department from 1959-73 and served as fire chief from 1970-73. His nickname was Siren Cecil.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Nellie; a son, Dennis Harrison of Post Falls; two daughters, Marsha Suman of Post Falls and Rita DeJong of Missouri; two brothers, Clifford Harrison of Minnesota and Albert Harrison of Yakima; five sisters, Myrtle Nettleton and Mable Mitson, both of Spokane, Nora Kellinger of Twin Falls, Idaho, Hazel Noyen of Smelterville, Idaho, and Mildred Gallespi of Post Falls; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

E. Lee Rae Clark Kihei, Maui

Memorial service with military honors for E. Lee Rae Clark, 78, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home in Spokane. Private inurnment will be at the Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Clark, who was born in Bremerton, died Tuesday.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1940, serving during World War II with the 4th Marine Division in Shanghai, China. He arrived in the Phillipines in 1941 and was captured by Japanese forces at the fall of the Corregidor in 1942. He spent 3 years as a prisoner of war.

After the war, Mr. Clark returned to Spokane, where he began his career in business, joining Medical Service Corp. as a salesman in 1953. He was promoted to general manager in 1958 and retired as CEO in 1982, and moved to Hawaii.

His first wife, Maryellen, died in 1988.

He was a member of Trinity By the Sea Episcopal Church in Kihei, Leathernecks, Hillyard Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis and the Spokane Club.

Survivors include his second wife, Barbara; a son, Edward Clark, and a daughter, Katherine Villemure, both of Spokane; his stepfather, Maurice Farber of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Washington Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Charlie Hayes Silverton, Idaho

Service for Charlie Reed Hayes, 90, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Silver Wood Good Samaritan Center in Silverton. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hayes, who was born in Galena, Kan., died Wednesday.

He moved to the Silver Valley in 1936 from Kansas and worked as a miner for the Day Mines before retiring from Galena Mine in 1970.

His wife of 71 years, Edith “Marie,” died in 1998.

Survivors include five sons, Jerry Hayes of Osburn, Idaho, Jim Hayes of Bingen, Wash., Marvin Hayes of Spokane, Jack Hayes of White Salmon, Wash., and Kenneth Hayes of Mullan, Idaho; a daughter, Naomi Hayes of Spokane; 28 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Louise Cheatham Spokane

Private inurnment for Louise Elizabeth Cheatham, 80, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 78-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Cheatham died Monday. She was born in Mesa, Wash.

Mrs. Cheatham worked as a beautician at The Bon Marche for several years.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Santos of Seattle; and two grandchildren.

Bud Trunnell Colville, Wash.

Funeral for Bud Trunnell, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville. Burial will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Trunnell, who was born in Wilder, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He graduated from Wilder High School and in 1939 married Neola Sartwell.

Mr. Trunnell received a degree in economics from the University of Idaho in 1940.

In 1948 he moved to Colville, where he worked as a board member for the Vaagen Bros. Logging Co. until 1953. He moved to a farm near the Colville Valley.

Mr. Trunnell opened his own accounting business and in 1968 moved back into Colville, where he continued the business until his retirement.

His wife died in 1996.

Survivors include five daughters, Nicole Weber of Selinsgrove, Pa., Trudi Shannon of Walla Walla, Julie Carr of Colville, Jane McNew of Deer Park and Monica Lorts of West Linn, Ore.; three sons, Tim Trunnell of Spokane, Jeff Trunnell of Auburn, Wash., and Lee Trunnell of Poulsbo, Wash.; a sister, Ailene Gregory of Liberty Lake; a brother, Gerald Trunnell of Wilder; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Edward Moore Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Edward John Moore, 86, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott, Wash. Inurment will be at the Endicott Cemetery at a later date. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore, who was born in Penewawa, Wash., died Tuesday.

He grew up in Endicott, attending grade school in Dusty, Wash., before graduating from Endicott High School in 1920.

Mr. Moore married Edna Bafus in 1934 and began his own farming operation near Endicott in 1935.

In 1944, he moved to the Dusty area, where he continued farming. His wife died in 1993. In 1994 Mr. Moore retired to the Hill-Ray Plaza in Colfax.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott and the Wheatland Grange.

Survivors include a daughter, Angelene Stubbs of Lacrosse, Wash.; two sisters, Bernice Bryan of Spokane and Helen Fountain of Mesa, Ariz.; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Owen Spokane

Memorial service for Robert A. Owen, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Private inurment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Owen, who was born in Dodge Center, Minn., died Monday.

He was raised in Spokane, graduating from Central Valley High School.

Mr. Owen served with the Air Force for 25 years, serving during World War II and the Korean War, and retired in 1961.

After his retirement from the armed forces, he worked for the Consolidated Irrigation District 10 for 15 years and retired in 1976.

Mr. Owen was a 51-year member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lillian; and a daughter, Marcia Mohs of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Kevin Morris Mullan, Idaho

Service for Kevin Michael Morris, 20, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mullan. Burial will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Mullan.

Mr. Morris, who was born in Silverton, Idaho, died Wednesday from cancer.

He graduated from Mullan High School in 1996 and attended the University of Idaho. He worked as a cook in the summers for Lincoln’s 10,000 Silver Dollar Restaurant in Montana.

Mr. Morris was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, Everett and Debra Morris of Mullan; two brothers, Christopher Morris of Post Falls and Shaun Morris of Mullan; his grandmothers, Mildred Blacketer of Mullan and Billie Morris of Wallace; great-grandmother, Mary Sullivan of Pinehurst, Idaho; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
