Forty days of fasting, prayer

Mission Spokane is again asking area congregations to participate in 40 days of fasting and prayer during Lent. Churches are asked to select a day and organize fasting and prayer during that day.

Extended prayer for all participants will be from 7 p.m. to midnight each Friday at different sites. Friday’s prayer will be at Garland Alliance Church, 2011 W. Garland. Additional locations include Rock of Ages Christian Fellowship, Valley Assembly of God Church, Fellowship Church of God, The King’s Community and Fourth Memorial. For a complete schedule of events, call Dan Grether at 468-4855.

Violence vs. religion

“Building Healthier Communities: Intimate Partner Violence, Faith and Ministry” will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third.

The event, sponsored by the Spokane County Domestic Violence Consortium, will look at the links between domestic violence and religion and how faith communities can take a pro-active stance against violence and abuse.

The featured speakers include the Rev. Aubra Love of the Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence and the Rev. David Saude of Messiah Lutheran Church in Camrose, Alta.

Unity in church

Chuck Missler, founder of Koinonia House in Post Falls, will speak at 7 p.m. Friday at the Coeur d’Alene First Assembly of God Church, 2200 N. Seventh. Missler will speak on “Unity in the Upcoming Church.”

Music will be provided by Susan Williams. Frank Peretti and the Northern Cross Band will lead the worship. A free-will offering will be collected. (208) 667-5481.
