“There are 4-inch-deep potholes in Highway 95, and that money fills those potholes,” Sen. Shawn Keough said in explanation of his opposition to repealing 4 cents of Idaho’s gas tax, legislation introduced Thursday.

Votes

Here are some of North Idaho lawmakers’ votes in the past week:

Fee increases: Lawmakers on Tuesday defeated a bill 11-6 that would have increased Fish and Game fees 40 percent across the board. North Idaho Reps. Jim Stoicheff and Chuck Cuddy voted against killing the bill, but voted for an amendment that would scale back some of the increases. Rep. John Campbell voted against the legislation and the amendment.

Tax credits: The House passed legislation 45-23 Thursday that doubles the tax credit available for certain charitable contributions. The bill was opposed by North Idaho Reps. Jim Stoicheff, June Judd and Larry Watson. Voting “yes” were Reps. Chuck Cuddy, Don Pischner, Jeff Alltus, Wayne Meyer, Hilde Kellogg, John Campbell and the bill’s sponsor, Jim Clark.

Washington, D.C., office: The House passed an emergency appropriation of $122,000 to open a Washington, D.C., office so Idaho can be more economically competitive. North Idaho Sen. Gordon Crow voted against the bill, while Sens. Shawn Keough, Clyde Boatright, Jack Riggs and Marguerite McLaughlin voted for it.
