Hints From Heloise

Dear Readers: Sap stains? If pine-tree sap has been leaving its mark on your washable clothes, try removing it with dry-cleaning solvent. Of course, you need to read the directions before beginning.

Put the stain facedown on a paper towel, then apply the solvent to another paper towel or piece of terry cloth and work at the stain from the back of the material.

Next, combine a little regular powdered laundry detergent (make sure it doesn’t contain bleach) and ammonia to make a paste. Apply it to the stain and let it set for about 30 minutes. Wash, following care label directions. Check the stain before drying. If the stain remains, apply more paste, following the instructions above. - Heloise
