Moses Lake and East Valley made their 3A wrestling swan-song memorable with a one-two finish at the Region IV tournament in Ellensburg.
The Chiefs scored 168.5 points to EV’s 152, well ahead of third-place Cheney. Among the three they have 24 qualifiers to state.
Top four finishers per weight class earned spots in the 16-wrestler bracket at Mat Classic XI next weekend in Tacoma.
Fifth-place finishers wrestle in an entry-round match at state.
Among the eight Knight qualifiers were 108-pound champion John Sommer with a second-straight victory over last year’s state champion Jaime Garza.
Other EV winners were Josh Birt at 178 pounds and Matt Jolley at 190. Freshman Matthew Croskrey made the 101-pound finals.
Cheney has seven state qualifiers, including 215-pound champion Seth Morris and runners-up Jake Jarvis at 148 pounds and Blake Falor at 275.
West Valley’s Ty Roberts repeated his finals win over Moses Lake Golden Baker for the 158-pound regional title. He was one of three Eagle qualifiers.
Clarkston qualified three wrestlers to state.
Moses Lake champions were Carlos Adamy at 129, John Zamora at 141 and Joe Castro at 148 among six finalists.
Frontier and Mid-Valley wrestlers had all but four finalists and won 13 of 14 championships.
Next year Moses Lake returns to the 4A Big Nine League and East Valley moves into the 4A Greater Spokane League.
