Christopher Wood Spokane

Funeral for Christopher Glen Wood, 11, will be at 10 a.m. today at the 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Colville, Wash. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Christopher, who was born in Colville, died last week.

He attended Astor Elementary School and Hofstetter Middle School, both in Colville, before moving to the Spokane Valley. He most recently had been a fifth-grade student at East Farms Elementary School.

Christopher was a Cub Scout.

Survivors include his mother, Jolynne Wood of Colville; his father, Robert Wood of Newman Lake; five sisters, Kassie Wood of Newman Lake, Theresa, Brianna and Sydney Wood, all of Colville, and Brandie Wood of Spokane; a brother, Robert Wood Jr., of Colville; and his grandparents, Glen and Jean Wood of Colville.

Jean (Womack) Leonard Spokane

Funeral for Jean (Womack) Leonard, 95, will be at 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A 55-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Leonard died Saturday. She was born in Perth, Scotland.

Mrs. Leonard was involved in the ministries of the Northwest District Council for the Assembly of God Church. She was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; two daughters, Mary Gustafson and Ruth Lucero, both of Spokane; two sons, Dan Womack of Tonasket, Wash., and David Womack of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, John Buchan of Perth; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bernadette Cooper Federal Way, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Bernadette Cooper, 78, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church in Spokane. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cooper, a former Spokane resident, died Feb. 7. She was born in Seattle.

She worked for J.C. Penney in Spokane for 20 years and was a member of St. Charles Parish and the Altar Society.

She recently moved to Federal Way.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William.

Survivors include a son, William Cooper of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Susan Kruse of Renton, Wash.; a brother, Barney Hein of Stanwood, Wash.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Santford `Allen’ Manring Pullman

Funeral for Santford “Allen” Manring, 89, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Burial will be held at a later date at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Manring, who was born in Garfield, Wash., died Friday.

He graduated from Pullman High School in 1927 and attended Washington State University.

Mr. Manring moved to California and married Betty Henrichs in 1932.

They returned to the Pullman area, where he began farming. He farmed near Pullman until 1944, when he moved into town.

Mr. Manring was a member of Pullman Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and church officer, including treasurer.

He was also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and the Washington State University Alumni Association. He was active with the 4-H Club and the Future Farmers of America for several years and was a 50-year member of the Ewarstville Grange and the El Katif Shrine and was a lifetime member of the Whitman Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Manring of Dayton, Ohio, and Timothy Manring of Jakarta, Indonesia; a sister, Joyce Fields of California; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Mabel (Kinnick) Thomas Hartline, Wash.

Visitation for Mabel Irene (Kinnick) Thomas, 86, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur, Wash. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartline United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Hartline Cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas, who was born in Missoula, died Thursday.

She graduated from high school Coulee City, Wash., in 1931.

Mrs. Thomas then moved to Spokane and attended beauty school. She later married Noah Thomas.

They lived on a farm south of Hartline with her husband’s family for 10 years until they purchased their own farm southwest of Hartline. Nine months later the house burned down, and they returned to the Thomas family farm.

Her husband died in 1949, and Mrs. Thomas moved into the town of Hartline.

She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for several years. She also sang in the church choir.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Hartline United Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christian Service, Garden Club, the Gallopin’ Gals, Blind Springs Grange, the ParentTeacher Association at Hartline School and Highland Grange 808.

She moved to a retirement home in Spokane in 1991 and later returned to the Hartline area.

Survivors include two sons, William Thomas of Hartline and Norman Thomas of Lincoln, Wash.; two daughters, Eileen Cox of Spokane and Belva Trexler of Barstow, Calif.; a brother, Melvin Kinnick of Hornbrook, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Foster Morgan Spokane

Funeral for Foster A. Morgan, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A 44-year Spokane resident, Mr. Morgan died Feb. 6 while traveling in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He was born in Ellensburg.

During World War II he served in the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific with the Army’s 802nd Engineers Division.

Mr. Morgan later worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and the Washington State Highway Department. He retired in 1982.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 and Loon Lake Moose Lodge 855.

His first wife, Marjorie, died in 1991.

Survivors include his second wife, Marian Davey Morgan; two sons, Clinton and Foster Morgan, Jr.; three daughters, Susan Morgan, Linda Cox and Shirley Sparber; a brother, Ray Morgan; a sister, Barbara Wilson; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Bernice Jeffries Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Bernice A. Jeffries, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jeffries, who was born in Tracy, Minn., died Wednesday.

She graduated from Bellevue (Wash.) High School and in 1934 married F.C. Jeffries.

They moved to Spokane from Linden, Wash., in 1950. Her husband died in 1977.

Mrs. Jeffries was a homemaker and a member of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene five years ago.

Survivors include two sons, John Jeffries of Spokane and Ray Jeffries of Rockport, Texas; a daughter, Judy McIntosh of Twin Lakes, Idaho; a sister, Etta Mathison of Lacey, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Sam Mossuto Spokane

Graveside service for Sam G. Mossuto, 84, will be at noon today at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Mossuto died Friday.

Mr. Mossuto worked in the roofing and siding industry before retiring several years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Kathe; a daughter, Betty Bongers; a stepdaughter, Ramona Jonard; two brothers, Angelo and Amel Mossuto; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Elvan `Al’ Poe Spokane

Visitation for Elvan M. “Al” Poe, 84, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Poe, who died Friday, was born in Fort Supply, Okla.

He moved to Spokane from Anaconda, Mont., in 1944 and worked as a printer for the Valley Herald. He retired in 1976.

Mr. Poe attended the Spokane Valley Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Typographical Union.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Geneva; two stepsons, William Dolan of Seattle and Gerald Dolan of Napa, Calif.; five stepgrandchildren, 12 stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Richard Eden Post Falls

Funeral for Richard W. Eden, 69, will be at 2 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Freeman.

Mr. Eden, who was born in Lind, Wash., died Thursday while traveling in Yuma, Ariz.

He was raised in Valleyford and lived in Spokane until 1989, when he moved to Post Falls.

Mr. Eden worked for Utter Cadillac for several years before retiring in 1991.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Hazel; three sons, David Eden of Spokane, Marty Eden of Sandpoint and Rich Eden of Bellevue, Wash.; a daughter, Barbara of Rockford; a brother, Vernon of Valleyford; and six grandchildren.

Danny Knapp Jr. Spokane

Visitation for Danny G. Knapp, Jr., 13, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A 10-year Spokane resident, Danny, died Thursday. He was born in Omak, Wash.

He attended Arlington Elementary School and had been a student at Garry Middle School Survivors include his father and stepmother, Dan and Tonia Knapp; his mother, Robin Burns; a brother, George McCabe III; three sisters, Meagen, Tarri and Sally Knapp; and his grandparents, Ken and Gerri Knapp, Judy Turner-Alma, Kay Learn and Bob and Karen Burns.

Kenny Wright Post Falls Memorial service for Kenny Wright, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wright, who was born in Seattle, died Saturday.

He grew up in Seattle and served with the Army during World War II. He returned to Seattle and worked for National Cash Register. He later was transferred to Spokane and Lewiston.

He retired from NCR after 45 years and moved to the Post Falls area in 1984. He was a member of Athol Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth; four sons, David Wright of Chewelah, Wash., Ian Johnson of Post Falls, Steve Wright of Boise and Kevin Johnson of Coeur d’Alene; three daughters, Carolyn Brady of Spokane, Anne Shaw of Post Falls and Eileen Graser of Portland; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ann Sampson Spokane

Memorial service for Ann Sampson, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Sampson died Thursday.

She graduated from North Central High School in 1938 and worked as a legal secretary for the U.S. Attorney’s Office under the Department of Justice.

Mrs. Sampson was a member of St. Thomas More Parish and was active with the Parent-Teacher Association at Stevens Elementary, where she also served as an officer. She served as a leader for Blue Birds, Camp Fire, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Ray; a son, David Sampson, and a daughter, Linda Mikelson, both of Spokane; a sister, Mary Doulas of Spokane; two brothers, John Doulas of Spokane and Nick Doulas of Seattle; and two grandchildren.

Joseph Mattus LaCrosse, Wash.

Graveside service for Joseph G. Mattus, 89, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the LaCrosse (Wash.) Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mattus, who was born in Liverpool, England, died Saturday.

He immigrated to the United States from Lithuania in 1899, moving to LaCrosse in 1911. He graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1928.

Mr. Mattus then attended the University of Washington for three years before serving in the Burma-India Theater as a radioman in the Army Air Corps during World War II, flying supplies into China to Gen. Claire Chennault’s Flying Tigers.

After the war he moved to the Seattle area for a short time before returning to LaCrosse, where he operated the scale house for the LaCrosse Grain Growers.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a brother, Albert Mattus of Spokane; and three sisters, Lucy Ping and Ann Peterson, both of LaCrosse, and Maggie Stone of Portland.

Kami Impecoven Seattle

Funeral for Kami Lynn Impecoven, 24, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.

Miss Impecoven, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

She graduated from University High School in 1992 and attended Eastern Washington University for two years.

Miss Impecoven worked in the insurance industry for the past five years, first for Cochrane and Co., then for Qualmed in Seattle.

She was also a volunteer with the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

Survivors include her parents, Kim and Marjorie Impecoven; a sister, Jaymi Impecoven; her grandparents, Jerry and Judy Impecoven, and Clyde and Louise McKenzie; and her greatgrandmother, Grace Frost.

Norma Barrett Spokane

Graveside service for Norma J. Barrett, 60, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 45-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Barrett died Thursday. She was born in Minneapolis.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Grandmothers Club.

Survivors include five sons, Robert and Paul Barrett and Sonny Evenson, all of Spokane, Kevin McMurtery of Coulee City, Wash., and Thomas Evenson of Monroe, Wash.; six daughters, Debra Berry, Dorie Pearson, Sherry Gross and Cindy Evenson, all of Spokane, Carrie Hathaway of Elk and Connie Engeles of Coulee City; a brother, Melvin Bredeson of Deer Park; a sister, Irish Rash of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lloyd DeVore Lind, Wash.

Memorial service for Lloyd G. DeVore, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lind United Methodist Church. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. DeVore, a lifetime Lind resident and area farmer, died Sunday.

Mr. DeVore was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Lind Gun Club, Sandhills Grange, Washington Cattlemen’s Association and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; six children, Barbara and Gary DeVore, both of Spokane, Bradley DeVore of Lind, Fran DeVore of Jupiter, Fla., Janice Littlebear and Anita DeVore, both of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Kenneth DeVore of Lind; two sisters, Lola Bull and Louise Ladwig, both of Clarkston, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Jessie Meyer Spokane

Memorial service for Jessie Meyer, 90, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crossroads Baptist Church in Veradale. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Meyer, who died Saturday, was born in Lacombe, Alberta.

She moved to Spokane in the early 1930s and married E.F. Meyer.

Mrs. Meyer worked as a bookkeeper in the retail clothing industry.

Survivors include two daughters, Jody Kamp of Opportunity and Janet Smith of Tacoma; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Vera Laughbon Spokane

Memorial service for Vera R. Laughbon, 89, was Saturday at Rockwood Manor.

A 70-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Laughbon died last Tuesday. She was born in Tucumcari, N.M.

Mrs. Laughbon graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and worked as an interior decorator for The Crescent department store and Essick’s before retiring in 1965.

She was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and the Altrusa.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence; a daughter, Bertie Brugge of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and a sister, Mary Vaughn of Coos Bay, Ore.

Bernadine DeRuwe Spokane

Memorial service for Bernadine Eleanor DeRuwe, 77, was Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. DeRuwe died Thursday. She was born in Spokane.

She taught school in Colville, Wash., at Touchet (Wash.) High, Baker (Ore.) High and at Havermale Junior High in Spokane.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Compass Club, Welcome Wagon, American Association of Washington Women, Washington State University Alumni Association and the Deaconess Diabetes Learning Group.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Milan; a son, David DeRuwe of Seward, Alaska; a daughter, Debra Wing of Spokane; and five granddaughters.

Harlan `Claude’ Raines Cheney

Visitation for Harlan “Claude” Raines, 79, is planned for noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral home. Funeral is planned for noon Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Raines, who died Thursday was born in Williamstown, Kan.

He served in the Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart, the Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Bar and the Victory Ribbon.

Mr. Raines worked for Buchanan Chevrolet in Spokane for 24 years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 72 in Cheney.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rose; four daughters, Linda Kraft of Otis Orchards, Diana Strasburg and Maxine Proper, both of Spokane, and Peggy Scribner of Cheney; his stepfather, Max Crall; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Herman Chapman Spokane

Memorial service for Herman Chapman, 92, is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Audubon Terrace Congregation of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Chapman, who was born in Hood River, Ore., died Thursday.

He owned a Napa Auto Parts store in Wilbur, Wash., for several years before retiring to Brewster, Wash., where he owned an apple orchard. He moved to the Spokane area four years ago.

Mr. Chapman was an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 60 years.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Claire; three sons, Hugh Chapman of Spokane, James Chapman of Auburn, Wash., and Richard Chapman of Pasco; a brother, Melvin Chapman of Redmond, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
