Benewah Community Hospital will offer an adult CPR class from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday for $10 at the hospital. A first-aid course will also be offered for $45 from 6 to 10 p.m. March 15-16. The North Idaho College Workforce Training Center will offer a certified nursing assistant training class beginning Monday in Sandpoint. It will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays through June 3. Cost is $513, which includes textbooks. The course meets the Idaho requirements for nursing assistants. “Swing into Spring,” highlighting music of the 1930s and 1940s, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 13 in Schuler Auditorium at North Idaho College. Performers include the North Idaho Dance Ensemble, the Coeur d’Aleers and Michael McGiveney, who will present his famous quick-change act as it was seen on the Ed Sullivan Show. Kellogg sixth-graders are collecting aluminum can tabs until May for the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane. Tabs are traded in for time on kidney dialysis machines. Last year, students nationwide collected about 50,000 pounds of tabs. You can donate tabs to students or drop them off at the school.

The county Democratic Party has a new leader. Connie L. Wilson of Metaline was recently elected chairwoman. County Commissioner Joel Jacobsen was elected vice-chairman. Doug Lambarth will be in charge of publication of the party’s issues newsletter.

Deer Park Ambulance recently dedicated its newest ambulance in memory of Les Parkhurst, a longtime area resident and ambulance president who died Dec. 18.

The Rural Community Assistance program has money available for fiscal year 1999. The program assists rural communities dependent on natural resources to develop projects for long-term social, environmental and economic sustainability. Applicants may apply for a grant to form community action teams and develop plans. Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000. Application packets are available through local district rangers or from Leanne Marten at the Kootenai Forest Supervisor’s Office. Proposals must be submitted by March 31.
