Fire Guts Pizza Restaurant

From Staff Reports

A Tuesday morning fire gutted the inside of Second Street Pizza, a restaurant in downtown Bonners Ferry.

The fire, spotted by a passer-by at 7:26 a.m., closed Kootenai and Arizona streets in downtown Bonners Ferry for most of the day. When power was cut to the building, it also cut off power to the neighboring library and businesses.

No one was injured in the blaze, but the restaurant was destroyed. A firefighter broke through the main floor of the two-story building but was not injured, said Police Chief Dave Kramer.

Firefighters from the volunteer Bonners Ferry Fire Department arrived on scene within 10 minutes of the call. They were later assisted by members of the North Bench Fire Department.

Firefighters finished mopping up the fire at about 3 p.m. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The restaurant is closed on Mondays. It’s owned by Bill and Marcia Alexander.
