Dream Could Lead You To Higher Self

Nancy Huseby Bloom The Spokesman

Dear Nancy: I am from Thailand and was raised in the Buddhist faith. I followed my American husband home to the United States seven years ago. I spend my free time following my spiritual path by reading devotional books, meditating, chanting and praying with my husband. I have been asking for a spiritual teacher for many years. - Darina I am in my native country with a Buddhist friend. We have a wonderful meal together before I leave to go down an unfamiliar road. In the sky, I see a vision of a holy monk, but I’m not sure who he is. Several times I ask a woman standing next to me if she knows whether I worship with him. She tells me his name, but I don’t recognize it.

Suddenly, a long bamboo ladder appears, reaching up into the sky. I climb to the top and find myself in front of the holy monk who blesses me and gives me some small Buddha images for my necklace, which is illuminated on my neck.

Dear Darina: It would be wonderful if everyone could have at least one dream in their lifetime that would connect them with their spirituality as beautifully as yours does.

They don’t occur often, but they can be life-changing.

Your dream takes place in your native land, which hints your spiritual life is where you are at “home” and where your heart is.

You leave your friend and take an unfamiliar road, signifying a new beginning. Have you already found a teacher to be your guide and mentor? If you haven’t, then your dream may be precognitive, telling you of one to come. The ladder is your spiritual path which takes effort to climb.

Psychologically, sacred beings often appear in dreams to connect the dreamer with his or her own innate spirituality, the higher or true self, and the wisdom that lies in that part of the soul.

Often dreams invite the dreamer into greater faith and spiritual practice. It’s important to pay attention to these dreams.

Throughout history people have believed higher beings can contact and speak to us through dreams. Could this dream be telling you that your teacher is available to you on this level? Perhaps you don’t need a physical person to lead you.

The illuminated images around your throat, your communication center, may indicate you have been given a gift for teaching. It’s a gift you can bring back to Earth.

I wish you well on your path to enlightenment.

Reader tip: Christ, Buddha, God or other religious symbols may appear in the dreams of even non-religious people. The significance of these symbols is unique for each dreamer because everyone has different ideas and beliefs about spirituality and religion.

Look at the dream’s context. Was it uplifting and joyous, or did you feel judged and criticized? To one dreamer, a church may represent higher teachings and wisdom, while to another, it might be a symbol of dogma and repression.

Dream psychologist Eric Ackroyd says:

“The God figure in your dream may be - God! Don’t be surprised if your unconscious comes up with God images from a more ancient tradition than the one you were brought up in: The unconscious seems to have a memory that reaches back to humankind’s remotest past, and even beyond.”
