Wendell Ross Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Wendell V. Ross, 62, will be today at 7 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Fourth St. and Hanley Avenue, in Dalton Gardens, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ross, who was born in Mullan, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He graduated from high school in Wallace and served with the Navy for four years before returning to the Silver Valley.

Mr. Ross settled in Wallace, where he worked as a miner and also sold mining equipment.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene and opened The Cutting Edge sharpening service in 1991.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Kay; three sons, Scott Ross of California, and Mark and Jeff Ross, both of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers, Tom Ross Jr. of Texas and Bob Ross of Washington; a sister, Darlene Cervas of Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Jess `Ollie’ Nederhood Hayden, Idaho

Service for Jess Oliver “Ollie” Nederhood, 91, will be today at 10 a.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Nederhood, who was born in Springston, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He grew up in Springston and lived in Harrison, Idaho, before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1959.

Mr. Nederhood worked as a lumber grader in the timber industry and was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie; a sister, Nellie Williams of Coeur d’Alene; two grandsons, Jody and Ken; and one great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Children’s Village in Coeur d’Alene.

Jacob Wild Post Falls

No service will be held for Jacob David Wild, infant son of David and Stacey Wild.

Jacob was born Feb. 16 in Coeur d’Alene and died shortly after his birth.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Christjan at home; grandparents, Dick and Sandy Wild of Coeur d’Alene, Sandy Sparks of Post Falls and Stephen Ewing of California; great-grandparents, Eleanor Wild of Kellogg, Annie Ewing of California, Connie Sell of Mexico, and Donna and Harold Sell of Nevada.

John Colman Spokane

Memorial service for John Harrison Colman, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at Covenant United Methodist Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Colman, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

He served with the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II, before enlisting in the Washington Air National Guard. He retired as a command master sergeant in 1976.

Mr. Colman was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a charter member of Covenant United Methodist Church and a member of the Washington Air National Guard Booster Club.

He spent his summers in Priest Lake, Idaho.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, June; three sons, George Harrison of Kettle Falls, Wash., John Harrison and Richard Colman, both of Spokane; two daughters, Linda Schultz Colman of Kettle Falls and Sharon Williams of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Frances Miller Sandpoint

Memorial service for Frances Wendle Miller, 92, will be held later. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Miller, who was born in Illinois, died Wednesday.

She moved to Hope, Idaho, in 1917 and settled in Sandpoint several years later. She graduated from high school in Sandpoint and attended the University of Idaho.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene and taught second grade at Harding Elementary School for 10 years while attending the University of Washington during the summers to complete her teaching certificate.

Mrs. Miller married Kermit Miller in 1939, and they lived in several U.S. Forest Service ranger stations in Montana and Idaho before returning to Sandpoint.

She taught at Washington School in Sandpoint from 1954 until retiring in 1969.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the Sandpoint Elks Ladies Golf Club and Women’s Bowling Association. She also was a member of the Chapter V, P.E.O., the Hospital Auxiliary Board, Ladies of the Elks and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a former member of Pi Beta Pi Sorority at the UI.

She was past director of the Northern District Easter Seals and the Sandpoint area Girl Scouts, and had won numerous ribbons at the Bonner County Fair for her roses.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally Waltman of Coeur d’Alene and Linda Hunt of Sandpoint; a son, Jay Miller of Moscow, Idaho; two brothers, Rex Wendle of Spokane and Chud Wendle of California; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Carla Buck Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Carla M. Buck, 96, will be held at a later date. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Buck, who was born in Fessenden, N.D., died Feb. 15.

She grew up in North Dakota and then moved to 9 Mile near Wallace, where she worked as a seamstress at a dry cleaner service. She married Carl Buck in 1929.

Mrs. Buck later moved to Coeur d’Alene, and was a member of the Lake City Senior Center and Coeur d’Alene Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a nephew and niece, Ross Boch and Joan Stelle, both of British Columbia, Canada.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Margaret Maine Spokane

Funeral for Margaret J. Maine, 74, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mrs. Maine, who was born in Missoula, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1942 and married Earl Maine that same year.

Mrs. Maine worked as a cook at Admiral Baker Field and Mission Gorge County in San Diego for many years before retiring in 1982.

She moved to Spokane after her retirement.

Survivors include three sons, William Maine of Greenacres, Westley Maine of San Diego and Patrick Maine of Yuma, Ariz.; a daughter, Thyra Pallus of Alaska; a sister, Mary Smith of Clarkston, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
