Musiclink Program Needs Used Instruments For Students

Used pianos and other instruments for children participating in MusicLink are needed. The program provides scholarships for private music lessons for needy students.

The nationwide program, run by the Music Teachers National Association, was started in 1993, but is just now beginning in Spokane.

Organizers also need skilled people who can repair, tune, and move pianos.

Exhibit

Ruben Trejo, an art professor at Eastern Washington University, has a collection of his art on display at Texas A&M University in Austin.

“Dos Caras: The Works of Ruben Trejo,” part of EWU’s Exhibit Touring Services, will be shown through March 19. The exhibit contains 35 mixed media works with a theme of bringing cultures together.

Auditions

Spokane Civic Theatre will conduct auditions for the musical “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris” at 7 p.m. March 1 and 2 on its main stage at 1020 N. Howard.

Director Susan Smith, musical director Gary Laing and choreographer Troy Nickerson need two men and two women actor/singers who are to prepare a two-minute musical selection that’s not from the play. For more information, call the theater at 325-1413.

Classes

An origami workshop, the Japanese art of paperfolding, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Spokane Art School, 920 N. Howard.

Cost is $20, plus a $5 lab fee for materials. For more information or to register, call 328-0900.

A week of classes beginning Monday at the Corbin Art Center include: “Baskets II”; “Great Cities: the Art of Paris”; “Herbal Bath `Tea’ Bags, Lip Balm and Handcream”; “Artist Book or Journal”; “Intro to Calligraphy,” and “Hawaiian Quilting.”

All classes are at the center at 507 W. Seventh; nominal fees are charged. For more information, call 625-6677.

“Music Together,” an early childhood music program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, begins its spring session Tuesday at Holy Names Music Center at Fort Wright.

Ten-week classes of 45 minutes are on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings, or Tuesday afternoon. Call the center at 326-9516 for information and fees.
