Students Asked To Rename District

School officials in the East Bonner County School District No. 84 are turning to students to save them a mouthful.

The Sandpoint-based school district is holding a contest to rename the district.

“Who’s more creative than children?” asked school board member Ann Souza.

Now the district is easily confused with the newly created West Bonner County School District No. 83, which is based in Priest River. Even the district’s attorney has confused the two names, Souza said.

But that’s not the only incentive for the contest.

Souza said school officials want the students to have a sense of ownership, too.

The district is holding two contests; one to give the district a new name and another to create an emblem for the district.

The deadline for entries is April 15 at the district office.

Winners will be awarded prize money.
