Lou Henson became the 13th coach to win 700 games in Division I when New Mexico State defeated Utah State 55-52 at Las Cruces, N.M. Charles Gosa had 26 points and 12 rebounds for New Mexico State… . Freshman Deginald Erskin scored 40 points to lead North Texas over Nevada 119-81 at Denton, Texas. The Eagles’ four freshmen, three of them starters, combined for 97 of the team’s 119 points… . Roberto Bergersen scored 18 points and Kejuan Woods added 13 as Boise State clinched the Big West’s Eastern Division title with a 65-51 victory over visiting Pacific… . Erick Ashe scored 22 points and UC Santa Barbara clinched the No. 1 seed for the Western Division by defeating UC Irvine 79-68 at Irvine, Calif. Jerry Green led the Anteaters with a career-high 27 points. He was 12 of 17 from the field. Irvine led 39-35 at the half and built a 60-49 lead before UCSB went on a 30-8 run to close the game.

Casey Frank had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead a balanced attack as Northern Arizona defeated Sacramento State 71-61 at Sacramento, Calif. Northern Arizona and Weber State will determine the regular-season champion when the Lumberjacks and Wildcats play Saturday in Ogden, Utah. Weber State defeated visiting Cal State Northridge 95-78, with Harold Arceneaux and Eddie Gill scoring 17 points each… . Mat Seidensticker scored 21 points, including six free throws in overtime, to lead Montana to an 87-81 upset of Portland State in Missoula. The Grizzlies, who have won five of their last six games, play Eastern Washington on Saturday in Missoula. The winner will fill the final spot in the six-team conference tournament.
