Plan to add deputies logical, innovative

I found it ironic to see an article criticizing the addition of Spokane County deputies on page 3 by Tom Shelly (“Front Porch,” Valley Voice, Feb. 18.) when on page 6 Angie Gaddy reports the large increase of theft in the Valley.

On one hand, people want to be safe and secure in their homes and communities; but the voters have spoken, and they are not willing to pay for this security.

Now an innovative and logical plan has come along to bring the services to the people at minimal tax expense, yet the people continue to resist, in spite of the increasing need for the deputies.

What better way to fund additional law enforcement than through enforcing the law on those who choose to break it?

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Somebody has to pay. It may as well be the law breakers. Paul Morgan Spokane
