Backpacking

March is a wake-up call for backpackers, from the changing seasons to the weekly seminars at Recreational Equipment Inc.

Three programs geared to hiking are featured at free Thursday programs, which begin at 7 p.m.:

March 4 - The Spokane Backpacking Club will present slides of trips members have enjoyed and explain their spring backpacking school.

March 11 - The Spokane Mountaineers will present a slide show and overview of the club’s various activities. The Mountaineers also sponsor a spring backpacking school.

March 18 - Rich Landers, The Spokesman-Review outdoors editor, will present a slide program based on his guidebook, “100 Hikes in the Inland Northwest.”
