WSU’S ‘Art As Environ’ Exhibit Opens
Ross Coates, professor of fine arts at Washington State University, will discuss “The Hermeneutics of Self-Worth as Defined by the Traditional Urban/Rural Dichotomy” in conjunction with the opening of WSU’s Museum of Art exhibition, “Art as Environ: The Contemporary Installation.”
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Fine Arts Auditorium on WSU’s Pullman campus. A reception will follow in the Fine Arts Center, where the exhibit will be on display Tuesday through March 28.
Call for entries
The Spokane Arts Commission’s exhibiting committee will review slides of artists’ works that relate to the environment for showing on Earth Day in 2000.
Art work in all media, including photography, will be reviewed. For consideration, submit 10 to 20 slides of your work and a resume and/or artist statement to the Exhibiting Committee, Spokane Arts Commission, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., Spokane, WA 99201.

Entry applications to be juried for next fall’s Inland Craft Warnings sale and exhibition are being accepted.
The event will be Oct. 8 to 10 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center.

Area potters and pottery students are asked to donate hand-built and/or hand-thrown soup-size, unique pottery bowls to the Empty Bowls dinner on April 25 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort Wright Drive.

Classes
Ballet Arts Academy is hosting a series of advanced and intermediate Jazz Master Classes March 10 to 13 at the academy, 416 W. Sprague.
Classes will be taught by Daryl K. Clark who will teach jazz and “hip hop” styles while in Spokane.

Corbin Art Center has issued a schedule of classes for the week starting Monday at the center, 507 W. Seventh.
Adult classes include simple book binding, paper casting, soap making with aromatherapy, rubber stamping techniques, watercolor still-lifes, watercolor in the basics and beyond, and hand coloring black-and-white prints.

Visiting artist Joel Johnson will present a three-day watercolor workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 19 to 21 at Corbin Art Center, 507 W. Seventh, for painters of all levels of experience.

The Society of Renaissance Performers will hold auditions for actors, singers and musicians next Saturday and Sunday for its Northwest Renaissance Festival.
