Book reviewed: “Here on Earth” by Alice Hoffman.

Contact persons: Judy Morris, Chris Eriksen.

The review: The novel involves a woman who returns with her teenage daughter to the New England town of her youth. Intending to settle matters after the death of the woman who raised her, she is drawn back into an affair with an abusive former lover.

“I think in general everyone really liked her incredibly detailed writing style,” Eriksen says. “And even though the story had sort of a dark theme, they felt that the way she treated it was from the point of view of all of the characters involved rather than just from the one primary character. And so you got a feel for how everybody viewed the situation.” Eriksen notes particularly that, “The ending takes a twist that people weren’t expecting.” Overall, she says, “We thought it was an excellent read, an enjoyable read.”
