NBA’s `too much’ could benefit kids

I have an idea for solving the NBA strike.

(1) It’s clear that a lot of money is at stake, and (2) that the players and owners already make and have a lot of money.

Maybe the problem is not so much that each side wants, or needs, more money (let’s hope so, anyway), but that they don’t want the other side to have it.

So take 10-20 percent of this “too much” money and use it to improve the lives of children. Use it to build and staff more places where kids can go to be safe and develop more healthy interests. The players and owners could even work there, and probably be happier than they are now, worrying where their next million comes from.

After all, they are doing so well, not only because of their own wonderfulness, but also because of the wonderfulness of this country, this universe, maybe even the grace of God. Bruce P. Calkins Spokane

His wish granted

Thank goodness the NFL season is over as far as the Seahawks are concerned. Hopefully, by the time this letter appears in the newspaper, Dennis Erickson will be history as far as the Seahawks are concerned.

I have never seen such an exhibition of lousy coaching in my life. He can’t defend against the run or the pass. He has no imagination on offense. With the talent he had this year, the playoffs should have been a “slam-dunk.” I can hardly wait to see who replaces Erickson. Hopefully, it won’t be a bunch of college coaches like Erickson had on his staff. Wm. J. Hiatt Spokane
